Private Pilot License

All things have a beginning. Whether you choose to fly as a career, or just a hobby, the Private Pilot License is the beginning of your aviation adventure.

This license enables you to share the thrill of flight with your friends and family, the freedom of taking vacations without the restrictions of driving or purchasing an airline ticket, or just enjoying the beauty of nature from above.

Prerequisite:

Category 3 Aviation Medical

Minimum Age of 17 Years

Structure:

Flight lessons are scheduled to reflect the need of the individual student.

Private Pilot ground school scheduled consecutively two evenings per week.

Written exams are completed at the Excel Flight Training office in Lethbridge.

Flight exams are scheduled and completed at Excel Flight Training Incorporated.

Course completion:

Students receive a Private Pilot license after completing a minimum of 45 hours total flight time and passing the required exams.

The 45 (see note) hours flight time must also include the following:

– 17 hours Dual instruction including 5 hours instrument and 3 hours cross-country

– 12 hours pilot in command including 5 hours cross-country.

Note: These times are based on Transport Canada minimum requirements. Students typically average 50 hours before course completion.

Tuition:

Course cost as based on a student average is approximately $13,545.00 (see note). All tuition is subject to 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Note: Students completing their requirements within Transport Canada minimums can expect the tuition cost to be approximately $10,975.00.

International Students:

This program is a Designated Learning Program and eligible to receive foreign nationals on a study permit.
